“I don’t deem golf to be a sport; it’s a game of skill.”
Although 23-year-old Jordan Spieth has earned the right to draw comparisons to some of the most notable champions of the current generation, where do we rank golf on the pecking order of actual athletic competition?
Doug Gottlieb thinks the game of golf is a lot closer to darts and archery than it is to football, baseball, basketball, hockey, tennis, etc.
“You still have to have skill, nerve, toughness and some of the things it takes to be great at sport,” Gottlieb said. “The difference is that there’s an endurance aspect, an athleticism aspect to which you don’t necessarily need to have to achieve greatness in golf.”
