When we consider player contracts in the NFL, the word 'value' begins to come into question. For some teams, the 'value' of their offense is the quarterback. You can plug a variety of low-salary guys around a quarterback like Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers and they will continue to produce. You need help in areas other than the passing game, and that is where the money goes.
On other teams, the skill position guys are the ones hogging all the cash. Those teams generally don't succeed. Teams who invest in big-name receivers, or high salary cornerbacks, have niche areas dominated but struggle to translate that into wins.
