Although the champagne is on ice in Los Angeles, as the city was finally awarded its long-awaited bid to host another Summer Olympics, Yahoo Sports columnist Dan Wetzel thinks the City of Angels may have just aligned itself with the devil.
With a daunting $5.3 billion price tag to match, Wetzel says it’s reckless for organizers to project retribution through TV money, ticket prices, and marketing, for an event almost a decade in the future, completely devoid of any data on how the media’s economic landscape might look in 11 years, especially when it comes to licensing and television viewership.
