Losing a star player in the opening game of the season is not ideal for any team in professional sports, and Boston Celtics have a long history of tragic injuries. The loss of Gordon Hayward to the Boston Celtics not only changes the outlook of their team, but the entire Eastern Conference. There is, however, a silver lining to everything.
The Celtics weren't going to win an NBA title with or without Gordon Hayward this year, and they may benefit in the long term. Their younger players will have to step up and develop quickly, but the experience they will gain from playing on the floor together could be invaluable.
