Owners Need To Know The Current Climate Of The NFL

Houston Texans owner Bob Mcnair has received criticism from Texans players, and athletes across the nation for his controversial analogy comparing NFL players to prison inmates. The analogy he used was certainly not meant to be taken literally, but it was still a terrible look for him. Many of the league's players are African-American, and it's completely understandable that his comments were taken very differently than in the context he meant them in. Bob Mcnair, and owners around the league, need to be more aware of the climate of the NFL when choosing to speak out on sensitive issues like national anthem protests.

Race has been at the forefront of divisive conversations for years. Owners own the team, but do not own the men who play for them. They cannot control how players think, or feel, and it's every player's constitutional right to speak out where they see fit.
