Whenever somebody is hired in a position with no previous experience, it raises some questions. That was exactly the case when the New York Yankees hired former player and current analyst Aaron Boone as their new manager to replace Joe Girardi. Jason Smith explains the real reason that Boone was hired at such a high-profile position when plenty of more-than-qualified candidates were waiting in the wings.
The Yankees wanted a communicator who would be an extension of the front office and relay their plans to the players. Nobody with experience was going to take the job in New York, so they went with a guy who would be their puppet. Whether or not a bold move like this will work out will not be known for quite a while, but it's clear that the Bronx Bombers got what they wanted.
