There is a problem with Olympic hockey. For decades, the best athletes in America have participated in their respective sport by representing their home country in the Olympics. That came to a crashing halt in 2018 as the NHL and IOC refused to agree on a deal that would send their athletes to compete on Team USA and other countries the current players hail from.
JT and Looney say that it is an indictment on the worst commissioner in all of sports, Gary Bettman. Today, Team USA lost an opening round match up to Slovenia and a big part of that was the fact that most of the team was comprised of amateur players who have not yet reached the NHL level. Hockey is a great sport and it would only benefit the NHL's stars by giving them more exposure on a national level. Hopefully, the two organizations can come to an agreement when the Winter Olympics roll around again in four years.
