Benching Ryan Fitzpatrick Would Defy Logic

With Tampa Bay being the league’s most surprising team boasting arguably the NFL's most explosive offense, the team has suddenly found itself in a fortuitous quandary at the moment with its starting quarterback position.

Jameis Winston was supposed to get his job back after in Week 4 after serving his three-game suspension, but journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick has suddenly started playing the most electrifying football of his career, commandeering a Bucs offense loaded with receiving weapons.

Winston is a former no. 1 pick who made a Pro Bowl as a rookie and became the first QB in NFL history to throw for 4,000 yards in his first two seasons, but Tampa severely underachieved in his third season, which has made the Bucs franchise hesitant to spell a red-hot Fitzpatrick who has won two of three starts against NFL elites.

Clay Travis doesn’t really see how Tampa could possibly reverse back to Winston at the moment, especially with Dirk Koetter coming into the season on one of the hottest seats in the league, and with Winston's off-field issues putting his career as Bucs perceived franchise quarterback at a crossroads.
