Whitlock: Football Fans Finally Grew Tired of 'Idiot' Protesters

"There are about a dozen idiots who can build up their Twitter brand by trolling the National Anthem... Fans aren’t offended if there are only a dozen guys in the league out of 1,700.”

-- Jason Whitlock.

FS1 ‘Speak For Yourself’ co-host Jason Whitlock joined Outkick The Coverage discussing with Clay Travis why pro football has been enjoying a boost in television ratings this year after a 2017 season that saw its most unprecedented drop in viewership in the league’s history.

Ever since Colin Kaepernick first took a knee during the National Anthem before the 49ers final preseason game on September 1st, 2016, the league has been involved in a public relations nuclear disaster that has alienated many fans to the idea of one of the country’s most patriotic moments being tied to a political statement.

Although it can never be factually proven, a lot of the speculation around the mysterious drop in ratings centered around irritated fringe fans abandoning the sport altogether, disgusted with the politicization of the game.

Whitlock believes those same fans finally came to the realization that this perceived ‘movement’ didn’t represent the league as a whole, and was simply a microscopic group of players trying to pad their numbers on Twitter and get in their fifteen minutes of fame.

Listen to the full audio segment below as Whitlock says the league can finally focus on the most glamorous stories of the year BETWEEN THE LINES and rid themselves of this morbid National Anthem protest storyline.
