“So much of being a head coach in the NFL is about trying to analyze probabilities in real time and put your team in the best possible position to win... Mike McCarthy has failed time after time doing that.”
-- Clay Travis.
Listen to Clay Travis discuss Mike McCarthy’s controversial decision to not go for it on 4th & 2 late in the fourth quarter in their probable season-killing loss to the Seahawks on Thursday Night Football.
The Packers were on their own 33-yard line down by three points with 4:20 to play and elected to punt on 4th down. Three Seattle first downs later and the game was over, with Aaron Rodgers never getting another chance to bring the team back on the field.
Clay thinks it’s pretty counterintuitive to leave a player many have anointed the greatest quarterback of all time on the sidelines in the biggest moment of the game, and says he’d rather lose knowing his Hall of Fame quarterback couldn’t convert a short 4th down play, rather than watching a flawed 17th ranked Packer defense trying to save the day.
Listen to the full audio below as Clay says it’s a move that should end the Mike McCarthy Era in Green Bay.
