Chris Davis Sets One of the Most Pathetic Records in Sports History

Baltimore Orioles hitter Chris Davis may have finally hit rock bottom after a horrendous start to the season. On Monday night,Davis set a major league record with 47 consecutive at-bats without getting a hit. Davis was 0-5 at the plate in the Orioles 12-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics, extending his streak to 49 at-bats without recording a hit by the end of the game.

The streak dates back to September 14th of last season, when he recorded a double off of White Sox pitcher James Shields. He went hitless in his final 21 at-bats of the 2018 season and started this year by going 0-28 at the plate, striking out 15 times.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde believes that Davis might be on the verge of breaking out his historic slump.

"He hit three balls on the nose,"Hyde said after the game. "So I'm taking that as a positive moving forward. Hopefully, it's a good start."

In 2016, Davis signed a seven-year $161 million contract with Orioles after leading the league with 47 home runs in 2015. He has failed to live up to the massive deal, hitting just .168 last season, which was the lowest average for all qualified hitters.
