Female Powerlifter Suffers Horrific Injury During European Championships

A horrific scene unfolded during the recent European Weightlifting Championship in Batumi, Georgia, as French female weightlifter Gaelle Nayo Ketchanke had her arm break in two places while attempting a 243-pound deadlift.

In the video, Nayo-Ketchanke can be seen getting herself in position for the lift, before hoisting the bar above her head. The first part of the motion goes well, but as she goes to squat, her arm snaps in two places and all the weight comes flying back to the ground.

The weightlifter took to Instagram to address her injury:

"I quit this European Championships not in the best of ways, with an injured elbow after attempting to lift 107 kg after receiving a bronze medal for lifting 103kg. I've received a lot of supportive messages that warm the cockles of my heart and we are waiting for my return to France to do additional medical tests. I want to thank the medical and technical staff of the Federation who responded very quickly and stayed by my side, my coaches and my colleagues from the team of France. Stay tuned", she said.
