Grambling State football player Darrell Clark and his brother were shot late Wednesday night in New Orleans, authorities said. Clark's younger brother was fatally wounded in the incident, but Clark, a senior at the university who played wide receiver, is said to be in 'stable' condition following surgery.
According to Grambling tight ends coach, Darrell Kitchen, Clark and his younger brother had just finished playing basketball at a court in New Orleans when the shooting occurred.
Grambling State University President Rick Gallot extended his thoughts and prayers on behalf of the school to Clark's family, while speaking to the News-Star.
"We're always concerned with the safety and success of our students, whether they're student-athletes or not, "Gallot said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Clark family as they deal with this tragedy. I don't know the particulars of the incident, but on behalf of the university, the GramFam, the Clarks are and continue to be in our thoughts and prayers."
Several of Clark's teammates tweeted messages of support, with many changing their profile photos to Clark's jersey number.
"I need you. I can’t go back to school without my big brother on campus with me. Pull through dawg, "Grambling quarterback J.P. Pierce tweeted.
"Man (sic) I hate hearing news like this bro. Shake back family." GSU senior wide receiver De’Vante Davis tweeted
