The United States Women's National Team celebrated their fourth World Cup victory with a ticker-tape parade in New York City. Thousands of fans lined the streets and chanted "U-S-A" as the players rode through the Canyon of Heroes while confetti rained down on them.
When the team arrived at City Hall, they danced on stage carrying the World Cup trophy while "All I Do Is Win" blasted over the speakers.
Carlos Cordeiro, president of the U.S. Soccer Federation, was greeted with chants of "equal pay" when he stepped up to the podium to speak. The chants were in reference to a lawsuit filed by the Women's Team demanding that they get paid the same as the far less successful Men's National Team.
"We will continue to invest more in women's soccer than any country in the world," he told the crowd. "We believe at U.S. Soccer that all female athletes deserve fair and equitable pay."
Megan Rapinoe, who was the leading scorer in the World Cup, urged the crowd to keep fighting for what they believe in to make positive changes in the world.
"This is my charge to everybody. Do what you can. Do what you have to do. Step outside yourself. Be more. Be better. Be bigger than you've ever been before. If this team is any representation of what you can be when you do that, please take this as an example."
