Colin Cowherd: “Here’s a list of players I didn’t buy into that YOU did: Blake Griffin, Tim Tebow, Johnny Manziel, Russell Westbrook, Derrick Rose, John Wall, Carmelo Anthony, Andy Dalton, and Cam Newton… You told me these guys were going to ‘RUN THE LEAGUE’. NOPE, they’re just ‘talented’ but they’re not ‘that guy’. You’re not a ‘hater’ if you’re right, you’re just early on the criticism.”
Listen to Colin Cowherd discuss the recent release of the NFL.com’s Top 100 Player Rankings that had Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton buried in the rankings, as the former Most Valuable Player and Super Bowl runner-up came in at no. 87 in the countdown.
Colin says Cam is ‘talented’ but needs a lot around him to win, and says he never bought into the transcendent mobile quarterback some were projecting as a perennial All-Pro and future Hall of Famer.
Since Newton’s MVP campaign of 2015, he’s finished two of three seasons with a Panthers record under .500, and two of three seasons completing less than 60% of his throws, including an ugly 52.9% season in 2016.
Check out the audio below as Colin explains why he was never on the Cam bandwagon and details how these players rankings, as well as last week's quarterback rankings via The Athletic, only back up his claims.
