Julio Jones: “I’m not playing preseason. For me, I’m a veteran and I’ve been doing this. I don’t need preseason to get ready. It’s a mentality thing. As long as I get my reps in practice. I practice the way I play. Once I get my reps in I’ll be ready to go.”
Colin Cowherd: “I totally agree. Listen, I love the NFL but there’s things I don’t like. STARS DON’T NEED PRESEASON GAMES.”
Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he doesn’t like any NFL starter partaking in the preseason, as news of Julio Jones’ preseason exodus was announced on Wednesday.
Jones is supposedly suffering from a foot issue but it’s not certain if the injury was ever considered remotely serious enough for Jones to actually miss preseason games from that alone. Jones hasn't played in a preseason game since 2017 and missed the other three games that year.
Colin says he doesn’t see the importance for the preseason when it comes to the cemented starters who aren’t competing with anyone on the depth chart.
The Los Angeles Rams notably rested ALL their starters in the 2018 preseason before making it all the way to the Super Bowl. Head coach Sean McVay says the team doesn’t plan on playing his starters again this preseason either.
Check out the audio below as Colin says every NFL team should adopt the same blueprint as the Rams.
