Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal threw shade at recently signed Dwight Howard, as Shaq was clearly trying to embarrass an embattled Howard who once closely compared to the NBA Hall of Famer.

Howard signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Lakers after DeMarcus Cousins’ likely season-ending torn ACL opened the door for the Lakers to find a backup big man.

The shot from O’Neal isn’t much of a surprise, as Shaq has held an often antagonistic opinion of Howard ever since Howard took O’Neal’s ‘Superman’ nickname as the next iconic center for the Orlando Magic.

Howard was once considered one of the NBA’s best players, but has seen his stock alarmingly plummet the last half-decade in one of the most notable falls from grace in league history.

After spending eight seasons in Orlando, averaging 18.4 points and 13.0 rebounds, Howard’s career went into a steady freefall, washing out with five teams since 2012, including an embarrassing initial exit from LA that became immortalized by Lakers legend Kobe Bryant calling Howard ‘soft’.

The 33-year-old wouldn’t be considered ‘washed up’ quite just yet, but he’s surely beginning to toe the line of ‘NBA Scrub’ as rampant injuries coupled with a modern NBA eliminating the center position has put his career on life support.
