The other day, the New Orleans Saints VS. LA Rams matchup was going to be the marquee match of the day. It was the biggest rematch between two teams embroiled in a rivalry forged by the referees, unfortunately. Like the Rams seemingly stole a victory in New Orleans at the NFC Championship last year, it was time for the Saints to steal one on LA turf.
Much of this fell to pieces after a controversial call where Cam Jordan looked to have caused a fumble on Jared Goff. Jordan recovered the ball and ran to the other side for a touchdown. The refs ruled it to be an incomplete pass. Coupled with the issue of the uncertainty of Saints quarterback, Drew Brees who was sidelined with a hand injury and you've got yourself a depressing rest of the game for New Orleans.
The pain continues for the Saints as the NFL has reported that Drew Brees will now be out for up to six weeks after an encounter with Rams defensive tackle, Aaron Donald:
"The Saints quarterback has a torn ligament in his throwing thumb that will require surgery, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per sources. The initial estimate is Brees is likely out six weeks, per Rapoport."
Latest update from the Saints:
The Saints made Teddy Bridgewater the highest-paid backup in the NFL, as he chose NO over Miami. That looms large now. Sean Payton has confidence that Bridgewater can keep them alive for however long Drew Brees is out. And for Brees, at least it’s not season-ending.
