Pirates Closer Felipe Vazquez Arrested For Solicitation of 13-Year-Old Girl

Miami Marlins v Pittsburgh Pirates

Disturbing details out of the MLB on Tuesday, as ESPN MLB Insider Jeff Passan is reporting that Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star closer Felipe Vazquez, has been arrested and charged with one count of computer pornography, solicitation of a child, and one count of providing obscene material to minors.

Vazquez was taken into custody by police on Tuesday and is being held in the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh, where he will likely be expected to be sent back to Florida to face the charges.

Authorities in Lee County, Florida reportedly began investigations in August after agents obtained information that Vazquez was in a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl.

Reports says Vazquez and the girl had kept in contact through text messaging for an extended period of time. At one point the victim, now 15, received a video in from Vazquez where he’s shown performing a sex act.

Vazquez reportedly sent messages alluding to the two ‘meeting for sex’ after Pittsburgh’s season was over.

Vazquez is 28-years-old and has been named to the N.L. All-Star team the last two seasons.

In 2019, Vazquez has notched 28 saves and has put up a 1.65 ERA, with a 90/13 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 60.0 innings.
