Report: Redskins Tight End Jordan Reed May Never Play Football Again

Wild Card Round - Green Bay Packers v Washington Redskins

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Washington Redskins are gravely concerned that 29-year-old tight end Jordan Reed may never play football again because of a concerning history of concussions.

Reed suffered a concussion against the Atlanta Falcons during their third preseason game and has not appeared in a game since. Reed has a history of concussions and was ruled out for Week 3 against the Bears.

On Saturday, NBC Sports’ JP Finlay reported that Reed could be out for ‘weeks’, and said the team could elect to put Reed on Injured Reserve, given he hasn’t even been cleared for contact yet.

Reed has reportedly suffered seven concussions in his career that were documented.

The 6’2”, 245 pound Reed, a third round pick in 2013 out of the University of Florida, has spent six seasons in the NFL but has only played in 65 of a possible 99 games.

Reed signed a five-year, $46 million extension with the Redskins before the 2016 season, which will pay him around $8 million per season through 2021.

Reed was named to the Pro Bowl in 2016 and was considered one of the better tight ends in the league. In 2015, Reed caught 87 passes for 952 yards and nine touchdowns despite playing in only 14 games and starting in just 9.
