Former Texas Tech Star Andre Emmett Murdered Outside Home in Dallas

NBA writer Shams Charania is reporting that former NBA player and Texas Tech Red Raiders star Andre Emmett was murdered in Dallas Monday morning.

Police in Dallas say Emmett was sitting in his car in front of his residence at 1800 North Prairie Avenue before being confronted by two men, with one holding a handgun. After a brief altercation, Emmett tried to flee the scene in his car but was shot.

Two men then got into a White Chrysler 300 and fled the scene according to witnesses.

Emmett was reported dead at the hospital.

Emmett was a four-year starter Texas Tech under Bob Knight from 2000-2004, and is the school's second all-time leader scorer with 2,256 points and fourth all-time in Big 12 history. He was named to the Big 12 First-team three times and was a Consensus All-American in 2004.

Emmett was drafted by the Supersonics in the second round of the 2004 NBA Draft but only appeared in 14 NBA games. Eight with the Grizzlies in 2004 and six with the Nets in 2011.

Emmett had bounced around in the NBA D-League and also played overseas in China. He was a two-time D-League All-Star and was the leading scorer of the Chinese Basketball Association in 2011.
