Pujols joined Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Alex Rodriguez, and Cap Anson as the only players in MLB history with over 2,000 RBIs when he hit a solo shot versus the Tigers at Comerica Park on May 9th, 2019
The fan who caught the home run ball was 33-year-old, Ely Hydes, who refused to give the ball up when asked by Pujols after the game if he would trade the ball for a meeting with Albert and signed memorabilia.
Hydes said ‘I don’t care about money’ and ‘It’s folklore, I love it’, saying he was turning down all lucrative offers for the iconic baseball.
On Tuesday it was revealed that Hydes had donated the ball to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York in the name of his late son Cyrus, who had passed away after only 21 months because of a rare infection.
