Rich Eisen: “Are you surprised that Dwayne Haskins hasn’t even gotten a sniff yet to the point where Case Keenum is in a walking boot and Jay Gruden STILL won’t say if Haskins is the starter this week?”
Joel Klatt: "I’ve dug around and tried to get a sense of what’s going on there and I have pretty good intel that the coaching staff was never really on board with the selection and it was more of a front office selection. There is a rift right now of who the front office wants to play and who the coaching staff wants to play. That’s not a good situation right now in Washington. They’re not on the same page. They never though Dwayne was going to be available so the situation was not thoroughly vetted some of the decision makers and the coaching staff. So once the Daniel Jones pick happened, It kind of threw everything into motion and one side started saying 'This is great! We never thought he was going to be available and now we can take him!' and the other side was saying 'Well, we didn't want him anyways.'" (Full Interview at Bottom of Page)
Listen to Fox Sports college football analyst and color commentator Joel Klatt join The Rich Eisen Show to discuss the mysterious Washington Redskins starting quarterback battle, that hasn't really been much of a fight at all.
The Redskins are 0-3 and looking like one of the worst teams in football, but Washington head coach Jay Gruden, who's already on one of the hottest seats in the NFL, is still remaining ominously loyal to journeyman Case Keenum.
Despite the franchise drafting former Ohio State All-American quarterback Dwayne Haskins at no. 15 overall in last May's NFL Draft, Haskins has largely been ignored in any discussions about him replacing a 31-year-old Keenum who is 26-31 for his career in eight forgettable NFL seasons.
Klatt dropped some bombs to Rich Eisen, saying the intel he has on Washington revealed a Redskins coaching staff who was never on-board with the team drafting Haskins.
Klatt says Washington never believed that Haskins would drop all the way to 15, and said that potential scenario was never 'thoroughly vetted'. Daniel Jones was shockingly selected by the Giants at no. 6, which led to Haskins falling all the way to 15.
According to Klatt, the Redskins coaching staff didn't want to draft Haskins, and that it was ownership that made the pick. Klatt also says there is an ongoing 'rift' between the front office and the coaching staff on the starting quarterback going forward.
News of Klatt's comments began to go viral on Friday, with Haskins taking to his official Twitter account to even re-quote the video of the interview saying it was 'Fake News'. The tweet has since been deleted.
NFL insider Benjamin Albright confirmed Klatt's sentiments, saying the coaching staff wanted Daniel Jones and owner Dan Snyder wanted Haskins.
