When the Pittsburgh Steelers face off against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, the two players who sparked a melee in the endzone during their previous matchup will not be taking the field. Myles Garrett was suspended indefinitely for hitting Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph with his own helmet, and the Steelers announced that Rudolph would be on the bench.
Instead, the Steelers will tab undrafted rookie Devlin Hodges with the start against their bitter division rivals. Hodges came in to replace Rudolph during the Steelers' week 12 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Rudolph was 8-16 and threw an interception before he was benched. Hodges ignited a stagnant offense and helped lead the Steelers to a 16-10 come-from- behind victory against the winless Bengals.
Steelers' head coach Mike Tomlin said that Rudolph needs to a better job protecting the football. He had a fumble and threw four interceptions against the Browns, and had another one against the Bengals before he was pulled. Tomlin said that the team is not giving up on their 2018 third-round draft pick.
"I got a lot of patience for young guys, but one thing we got to do is protect the ball."
