Clay Travis is joined by Major League Baseball insider Jon Morosi to react to the blockbuster trade that sent former MVP Mookie Betts and pitcher David Price from the Boston Red Sox to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
David Price is a really nice addition to the rotation for the Dodgers, but the prize of the deal is definitely superstar Mookie Betts (right behind Mike Trout as best player in baseball.) Clay Travis asks Jon Morosi if the Dodgers should now be the favorite to win the World Series, and Morosi believes that they should be. What will the impact of a player like Mookie Betts have for the Dodgers and can they sign him to a huge long term deal?
Morosi: "Mookie Betts has, I believe, of all the trades they've made, the greatest overall impact, and a star they needed for a long time. They've been looking for a really impactful righty bat...of course we know he can move all around the diamond, play in the outfield...He, to me, is an ideal person to bring in for the Dodgers."
On the other side of the coin, Clay Travis asks why the Red Sox are making this move, and Morosi says it is mainly a financial decision. The Red Sox were unlikely to be able to sign Betts following this season to a long term deal. This trade also gets the Red Sox under the luxury tax.
Clay then asks Morosi for an update on the Astros cheating scandal, the biggest baseball story this off-season. Is the story with the Astros over with, or is it just getting started? Also, was the punishment for the Astros significant enough?
Spring Training begins next week and the regular season is just around the corner. There are story lines galore heading into the baseball season, and it should make for an amazing year in Major League Baseball.
