Colin Cowherd: LeBron James is Passing the Ball Too Much to Beat Blazers
Colin Cowherd: “It’s very rare and I see this every few years with LeBron, and this is a problem if you’re a Laker fan. It’s very subtle but LeBron began ‘over-passing’ last night. Everybody was saying his passing was great, but this team does not have a dependable third scorer and LeBron needs to drop 34, and not end up with 15 assists. He’s overpassing because Hassan Whiteside had 5 blocks and played very well… This is why when LeBron plays with Kevin Love, Chris Bosh, or Anthony Davis, he would prefer those guys out of the lane so the big guy guarding them doesn’t block the rim. Everyone was doing a victory lap on LeBron’s passing, but this team is not gifted enough offensively to win with LeBron being the best passer on the floor. They’re going to win if he SCORES this series, because you can’t trust Danny Green, and you can’t trust Kyle Kuzma… If Hassan Whiteside gets into LeBron’s head in this series and he becomes ‘super passer’ and 'best teammate ever!', that’s a problem because the Lakers aren’t talented and deep enough for LeBron to dominate and get 17 assists a night. He’s gotta drop 34 in this series at some point to clinch it because Portland is real.” (Full Segment Above)

Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he thinks LeBron James was being too passive last night in the Lakers’ Game 1 loss to the Blazers, and why he thinks LeBron has a rare habit of starting to overpass the ball when he loses faith in his jump shot, and when the opposing team has an intimidating rim protector like Hassan Whiteside.

LeBron became the first player in NBA postseason history to post a 20+ points, 15+ rebounds, and 15+ assists game, but he scored just 23 points in 41 minutes, and the Lakers posted the lowest scoring total of the first round -- against one of the league's worst defensive teams no less.

Check out the audio above as Colin details why the Lakers aren’t talented enough for LeBron to simply be ‘Super Passer’, and not be their most active scorer attacking the rim.
