Last Week's Blazin' 5 record: 2-3

2020 Blazin' 5 record: 2-3

Falcons at Cowboys (SPREAD: DAL -5)

“I like Dallas (-5) against Atlanta. Dak Prescott is one of those guys who plays well at home. Some quarterbacks feel very comfortable at home. Last year at home he was first in passing touchdowns, tied for first in passing yards, and was top 5 in passer rating. Doesn’t this worry you if you’re an Atlanta fan? They outgained Seattle and they got crushed. Atlanta is a cotton candy offense with a lot of phony yards. Dallas loses their opener a lot but with Mike McCarthy – all eyes on him, and a lot of heat on him – now they come home against an inferior team. I like Dallas to win comfortably 30-20.”

Colin's pick: Dallas -5

Lions at Packers (SPREAD: GB -6.5)

“This is all about the value of the number. Detroit (+6.5)m I’ll take the Lions. They completed outplayed Chicago – you had to of watched the game. They were much better than Chicago for all but eight minutes of it, and were leading 23-6 in the fourth quarter but then unraveled. I’m getting 6.5 points with Detroit. Everyone fell in love with Aaron Rodgers but you do realize that 7 of his last 9 games he’s had declining numbers? You do get that Minnesota had 400 yards against Green Bay’s defense? The Lions last year played Green Bay close and lost both games by a total of three points. I think Matt Patricia, and I’m dead serious here, the next two weeks he’s coaching for his job and to not lose the locker room. This is my upset of the week, I’m going to take the Detroit Lions with an upset over Green Bay. Six and a half is a ton of points here for team who needs to win. Lions 26, Packers 24.”

Colin's pick: Detroit +6.5

Bills at Dolphins (SPREAD: BUF -5.5)

“Timeout, Miami gets 5.5 points at home? I thought we liked Miami last year? Didn’t we like them last year and suddenly we think they stink because Belichick gave them quarterback trouble? Maybe Miami is okay, and maybe New England’s defense is fantastic. Ryan Fitzpatrick has faced Buffalo many times and he’s been fine and has done very well. This won’t be a shock and he’s not a rookie quarterback. The Bills averaged just 19 points last year and are still babysitting Josh Allen – did you see what they did in the second half against the awful Jets? It was very uninspiring. So I get a Miami team that I liked last year, and I’m supposed to bail because they lost in Foxboro to Bill Belichick? Like, ya know, EVERYBODY does. I like Buffalo a lot but I’m taking Miami to win in a September sweat-fest for the cold weather Bills. Miami wins 24-23.”

Colin's pick: Miami +5.5

Panthers at Buccaneers (SPREAD: TB -7)

“I’m going to take Tampa (-7). When Tom Brady loses in Week 1, you see what he does the next game? Yeah, he never loses, like EVER. The Panthers are a bad team who has lost nine consecutive games with a college coaching staff. The Panthers allowed 30 points a game last year, and this defense is younger and potentially worse. Last week Brady faced the best defense in the division, and this week he’s facing the worst. Last week Tampa had a punt blocked; it won’t happen again. He had a pick-six; it won’t happen again. Tampa’s defense was actually really good. Drew Brees only threw for 160 yards, that’s it. The running defense with Todd Bowles was good last year and it’s good again. Don’t get caught up in losing the first week to the Saints. THEY SHOULD HAVE. Carolina’s defense is bad and REALLY BAD on the back end. Tommy wins by 10, 30-20, Buccaneers.”

Colin's pick: Tampa Bay -7

Patriots at Seahawks (SPREAD: SEA -4)

“This is a number. I get over a field goal with Belichick. Belichick since the start of last year – look at their defense – it’s number one in virtually everything. Seattle’s o-lines and d-lines are bad, and they were out-gained by Atlanta. Seattle’s d-line is the weakest it’s been under Pete Carroll. The Seahawks allowed the most passing yards in the NFL last week, 434. I think Seattle is the better team in this spot, but you know what this is going to be. It’s going to be a short and quick game. New England is going to run and eat that clock up. That’s what New England does and they don't have a deep threat. What’s Seattle going to do? They know New England’s defense is great on the back end and they’re going to run the football and eat the clock up too. This game is going to go fast, and the first quarter is going to be gone. Seattle is the better team here, but getting four points in a run-dominated game with a big-game coach? By the way, Cam might be beat up later in the year but he’s not beat up now. This might be a clock controlled game and I don’t like Seattle’s defensive front AT ALL. Seattle wins but I’m going to take the four points, 23-20 Seahawks.”

Colin's pick. New England +4
