Dodgers star Justin Turner was spotted on the field not wearing a mask during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series celebration, moments after defeating the Tampa Bay Rays in a title-clinching Game 6.
Turner was lifted from the game in the top of the 8th inning, greatly befuddling baseball fans and commentators who were still unsure of the reason why the Dodgers would yank one of their best players in one of the biggest games in recent franchise history.
We would later find out that Turner had tested positive for COVID-19, and previously inconclusive tests that Turner had submitted on Monday, had finally come back positive. When health officials learned of the diagnosis, Major League Baseball then immediately notified the Dodgers to remove Turner from the game.
Turner tweeted after the game announcing ‘I feel great, no symptoms at all’, but he also included in the Tweet, ‘Can't believe I couldn't be out there to celebrate with my guys!’
However, Turner was seen celebrating with his teammates, as cameras picked up Turner on the field wearing a mask, and then yanking it down at certain moments to take pictures.
Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reported after the game that Turner ‘went into isolation after finding out he had tested positive’ and then said Turner ‘eventually returned to the field on his own accord.’
Diamond reports that MLB officials soon found out that Turner was on the field and instructed to get Turner back into isolation, but that ‘Turner refused to leave.’
