Following recovery efforts in Puerto Rico and Mexico after Hurricanes Irma and Maria, Luis Fonsi created The Luis Fonsi Foundation, and it's been the organization's mission ever since to provide children and teens in disadvantaged neighborhoods with the necessary tools to improve and make a difference in their daily lives. Now, the non-profit is being recognized by Ally as part of the "Hometown Heroes" initiative.
For the second year, Ally is recognizing Hometown Heroes that go above and beyond by enhancing the lives, heritage, and future of the Latino community and applauds Luis Fonsi and his organization's commitment to helping young people find their way. In collaboration with iHeartRadio, Ally is donating $50,000 to the Luis Fonsi Foundation.
Fonsi recently talked about the purpose behind starting his foundation, what they’ve accomplished so far, his music, and how it’s all inspired by the Latino community. He hopes he can continue to give back, creating a legacy for his foundation that is grounded on the Latino community’s needs, especially in times when they need it the most.
Of his foundation and all the work the organization has done, Luis explained "At the end of the day, the goal is the same – just [to] help. And, the purpose behind it was to let the world know, ‘Hey, this is what’s going on, we need help, we’re not getting a lot of help.’ And to also let the people in Puerto Rico know, ‘Hey, we got your back. We’re here.’ To me, it’s about connection, and about just being able to touch people’s hearts. It’s not just writing a check and saying, ‘Here.’ To me, that’s not the same [as] going there and hugging those people, and [saying], ‘Hey, it’s going to be OK.’ We’re here, we’re all together, we’re all brothers and sisters, and I’ve been blessed that I have this amazing platform to do music, to do events, to raise money, and to be able to help.”
