Blazin' 5: Colin Cowherd Gives His Five Best NFL Bets For Week 17
(VIDEO SEGMENT ABOVE)
Last Week's Blazin' 5 record: Colin didn't do a Blazin' 5 last week.
2021 Blazin' 5 record: 33-43-1 (Colin made bonus picks in Week 4 & 5)
Raiders (8-7) at Colts (9-6) (SPREAD: IND -7)
“The Colts have an extra day of prep because they played on Saturday. All nine of the Colts wins have come by 6+ points, so when they win they win BIG. The Colts have held their opponents under 20 points in five of their last six games. Translation? The Colts are ROLLING and they can play with anybody in the league right now. Jonathan Taylor is virtually number one in almost everything, they have a great identity. The Raiders, when they do lose, 6 of their 7 losses have come by 7 or more points. I think I get a hotter team, Carson Wentz and Quenton Nelson are ready to go, I’m going to take Indy to win and cover, 31-23.”
Colin's prediction: Colts 31, Raiders 23.
Colin's pick: Indianapolis -7
Titans (10-5) at Dolphins (8-7) (SPREAD: TEN -3.5)
“One of my favorite games of the week, I’m going to take the Titans -3.5. Remember, the Dolphins are on a short week of rest because they played Monday, and the Titans played the previously Thursday. So I get one team on a short week and one team on long rest. The Titans defense is number two in the NFL in rush, meaning Tua is going to have to throw. By the way, he’s been held under 200 passing yards in back-to-back games, that’s not a recipe for them. The Dolphins, let’s be honest about them, they’ve beaten in their winning streak Tyrod Taylor, Joe Flacco, Cam Newton, PJ Walker, Mike Glennon, Zach Wilson, and Ian Book. They did beat Lamar, but in this instance I get short prep against a longer prep. I love what Tennessee is doing, they’re getting healthier. I’m going to take Tennessee to beat Miami and snap the streak, 28-23.”
Colin's prediction: Titans 28, Dolphins 23.
Colin's pick: Tennessee -3.5
Eagles (8-7) at Washington Football Team (6-9) (SPREAD: PHI -3.5)
“I like another upset here, I’m going to take Washington plus the points. Listen, Washington is 6-2 this year when they have one turnover or fewer. Well, why would I then like them? Because Philadelphia’s defense does not turn up the heat. The Eagles defense is 26th in takeaways, and 30th in sacks. Quarterbacks have all day to throw. Jalen Hurts can run but if he falls behind he’s not about passing. Miles Sanders has a broken hand, Hurts’ ally in the backfield, and Hurts is still dealing with an ankle injury. I’m going to take Washington and the points to upset the Eagles, 26-23. Taylor Heinicke, or whoever quarterbacks them will be comfortable.”
Colin's prediction: Washington Football Team 26, Eagles 23.
Colin's pick: Washington +3.5
Broncos (7-8) at Chargers (8-7) (SPREAD: LAC -6.5)
“I’ve bet for and against the Chargers more than any team in the league and I’ve been really good with the Chargers this year. I think they’re going to win and cover against the Broncos, I’m going to take the Chargers. First of all, Austin Ekeler is back, Joey Bosa is back, Mike Wiliams is back. Star players really matter to young quarterbacks more than older quarterbacks. The Chargers offense has 50 total touchdowns, and only the Cowboys and Tampa have more. Their offense this year has been spectacular, virtually top 5 in everything that matters. The Broncos have lost 3 of 4. Drew Lock, who is not healthy is starting, Teddy Bridgewater hasn’t practiced, there’s a concussion protocol, so I think you’re going to have Drew Lock on the road against a desperate Chargers team with a star-studded offense. I’m going to take the Chargers to win and cover, 28-20.”
Colin's prediction: Chargers 28, Broncos 20.
Colin's pick: Los Angeles -6.5
Browns (7-8) at Steelers (7-7-1) (SPREAD: CLE -3.5)
“This is a fascinating game, I’m going to take the Steelers plus the points here. Mike Tomlin is a great underdog coach, they’re 14-0 against the Browns in the Tomlin era, and the Steelers were humiliated last week. You know my rule, proud organizations with good players that get humiliated always play well the next week and the Steelers were made fun of on the road. It’s Ben’s last home game, I’m going to get all sorts of emotion. TJ Watt is going to play, Steelers are 7-2 when he plays at least 60% of the snaps. The Browns have lost 3 of 4 and Baker has not been good on the road this year, hes only 2-5 and he was a real disaster last week. I know it’s an upset but I’ve seen real weird things in sports. Steelers have had many good Sundays, Tomlin as a dog, Tomlin at home against the Browns, Big Ben’s last home game, TJ Watt playing a lot, Baker has struggled away from Cleveland this year -- Steelers and the points with the upset, 24-23.”
Colin's prediction: Steelers 24, Browns 23.
Colin's pick: Pittsburgh +3.5
