Joy Taylor: New York Giants Look Dismissive to Diversity Issues in the NFL

Joy Taylor (in for Colin Cowherd) details in the audio above her concerns with the following statement made by the New York Giants after former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores dropped a bombshell of a lawsuit against them and the NFL:

In his CBS interview yesterday, Mr. Flores was asked if "clubs have the right to hire the person they think is the best qualified for the job or the person they feel is right for them?" Mr. Flores responded "They do. That's very reasonable to me . . .". That is exactly what we did.

At the top of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Joy Taylor felt this response from the New York Giants landed as petty and snarky. Taylor explains how this statement seemed dismissive of the overall problem with diversity hiring in the NFL and within the New York Giants organization.

Joy Taylor: "Maybe the Giants didn't do anything wrong here. Maybe they did give Brian Flores a fair shot but your reputation matters. And in this environment and this world where we're all asking for equality and everyone wants a fair shot, which is reasonable to most people and when you see the results right now where there's ONE black head coach in the NFL, we can all agree this is a major issue. So when the Giants put out a statement having never hired a black head coach in their 97 years of existence, having only had 5 assistant black coaches in almost a century, and having hired what is believed to be the first female hire in Giants coaching staff team history this week, maybe instead of the snarky little comment at the end of Brian Flores' very reasonable statement considering his circumstances, maybe you include something about how you acknowledge that this is an issue for the NFL. The NFL that has 73% black players. This is an issue for a massive billion-dollar organization that represents this country so well. That represents diversity and opportunity. That represents a kid who can get drafted in the sixth round and go on to be the greatest player of all time. Maybe instead of some snark and sass and completely denying any wrong-doing over 'the history of our organization,' instead maybe include something about how you plan on helping. How you've had conversations internally about how you wanna become more diverse."
