Wednesday on 2 Pros and a Cup of Joe, Jonas Knox, Brady Quinn and LaVar Arrington react to Panther GM Scott Fitterer telling Sam Darnold the Panthers will likely add another QB by the end of the Draft. Whether that's by drafting a rookie, or trading for the likes of Baker Mayfield, their options seem less than ideal and someone will end up taking the blame if the QB position isn't squared away by the end of next season.
LaVar Arrington: "It's a curious position that Carolina is in. If you take a Malik Willis or another quarterback with that high of a pick, that is not only a Boom or Bust pick for the player, that's a Boom or Bust pick for the GM. That's a Boom or Bust pick for the coach."
Jonas Knox: "Matt Rhule is already a lame duck coach, right? He hasn't really had an opportunity to see real talent at the quarterback position and when they did go for Deshaun Watson, they didn't want to guarantee years three and four of the deal.
So maybe Scott Fitterer looks at this and says, I don't know if I want to hitch my wagon to one of these quarterbacks here at number six, and maybe they do go in a different direction. Maybe it is Baker Mayfield. Who knows, maybe Jimmy Garoppolo is a potential target for them. I just mean, what are the options there? Because if I'm Matt Rhule, aren't you calling your real estate agent going, 'Hey, what do you think we could get for this because I'm probably not going to be here a year from now.'"
Brady Quinn: "If Scott Fitterer ultimately is the one who has been setting them up, how can you blame Matt Rhule? That's the tough part about this. I always have felt like general managers get off the hook, if they're the ones ultimately responsible for who they're drafting. Too oftentimes the easy blame game that goes on is, 'Well, the coaching staff didn't develop them, or they didn't utilize them the right way, or they didn't run the proper scheme.' Well, that's easy to say, but why did you draft a guy that didn't fit in their scheme? Why did you draft a guy that they didn't love?"
