Greg Popovich Deserves the Same Amount of Criticism As Bill Belichick

Jason Smith: “We talk a lot about Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, and who won that break up. Right now, we look at the winner of that war as Tom Brady. In a similar situation, how much has the genius of Greg Popovich taken a hit the last few years? Since 2016, when Tim Duncan retired, they’ve traded Kawhi Leonard, Tony Parker left, Manu Ginobili retired, they traded Demar DeRozan, LaMarcus Aldridge was cut and today they parted ways with Dejounte Murray. So you look at everything that’s gone down, you see the 5 championships, and start to question if that was his mastermind, or if it was the luxury of the talent he had. His reputation has definitely taken a hit, because they can no longer retool and rebuild. If we criticize Belichick, we have to do the same with Popovich.”

Jason Smith and Mike Harmon react to the Spurs trading Dejounte Murray to the Atlanta Hawks. Jason and Mike both believe that the Spurs and Greg Popovich’s lack of success in recent years is comparable to the Patriots’ and Bill Belichick’s struggles without Tom Brady.
