Dan McCafferty from Nazareth has passed away.

He was a founding member of the band and their lead vocalist, whose voice was heard on many of that band's best known songs like "Love Hurts" and "Hair of the Dog." McCafferty retired from the group in 2013 due to health issues.

Pete Agnew from the band shared the news on Facebook.

He wrote, "This is the saddest announcement I ever had to make. Maryann and the family have lost a wonderful loving husband and father, I have lost my best friend and the world has lost one of the greatest singers who ever lived. Too upset to say anything more at this time."

McCafferty passed away on Tuesday at the age of 76. No cause of death has been released.
