When discussing Justin Verlander's pending free agency, Astros owner Jim Crane revealed that Verlander is looking to get paid with a deal similar to what Max Scherzer got from the Mets. Ben Maller says it would not be a good idea for any team to give Verlander that kind of deal.

Ben Maller: "Justin Verlander performing at an elite level over the next 3 years would be a statistical anomaly. He is a toothache waiting to happen, as in long in the tooth. We have a mantra on this show. An old baseball skipper told me this years ago when I was covering the Dodgers: 'Don't let a falling star fall on you.'"
