Tuesday on 2 Pros and a Cup of Joe, Jonas Knox, Brady Quinn and LaVar Arrington react to the blatant clock mismanagement by Jeff Saturday in the Colts loss to the Steelers on Monday Night Football and though growing pains were to be expected for a first time NFL coach, the guys foresee larger problems ahead if he retains the job after the season.
Brady Quinn: "We've gotten away from meritocracy, but it's what made America great, is our ability to say, 'We're just gonna pick the best guy for the job.' And maybe Jim Irsay feels like Jeff Saturday is that but doing this during the season, you brought in a guy with no experience at the NFL level, no experience at the college level. Yes, he played that's great, but why not wait until the offseason to do that?... I think we're starting to see unfortunately the true colors of where this team is at now."
Jonas Knox: "I wonder how pot committed Jim Irsay is to Jeff Saturday... Does he just out of spite, wanting to prove that his method had some success at some level, do you think Jim Irsay just rolls with Jeff Saturday moving forward?"
LaVar Arrington: "He may say they couldn't make it through the season but now we have to go through the process of allowing him to do all those things [in the offseason.] That would be the justification of bringing him back."
Brady Quinn: "He would then just utilize a loophole in the Rooney Rule, and that to me is BS."
