Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin claims he checked with the sideline official about his pre-snap positioning before being called for an illegal formation and fans are coming down hard on the referee. But Dan is clearly on the other side of this controversy. It’s not the referee’s job to tell McLaurin where to line up and if he can’t figure it out for himself, it’s on him.
Dan Patrick: “There are certain officials in certain sports who will help you. I understand that. They might say, ‘Hey, don’t do that. I’m going to call that next time.’ Whatever it might be, I understand that. But in that situation, I just thought, alright, you go to the line of scrimmage; do you know what the formation is? Do you know that you have to be on the line of scrimmage? And if you don’t, then I’m going to put that on you.”
