Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred joins Dan Patrick on The Dan Patrick Show. They take a deep dive on all of the rule changes, including the pitch clock, outlawing the shift, bigger bases and of course, automated strike zones. They discuss the pros, cons and misconceptions surrounding so-called “robot umpires” and how they can improve the game. There are data driven reasons that indicate it will have a real effect on offensive production.

Rob Manfred: “Right now, if you look at the data, the umpires call kind of an oval strike zone. They don’t call inside/outside on the corners, and that can have an effect on offense in the game that we really need to understand.”
