Greg Jennings: "Bears Coaches Shouldn't Be Over-Managing Justin Fields"

Greg Jennings: “I’ve been watching almost every snap Justin Fields has taken under center this year, and it doesn’t look good. Even having coaches in your ear, where they’ll imply where you should go with the ball, but that causes the QB to overthink sometimes. When you’re out there as a QB, you can’t think, you just have to react to what the defense is doing, and that’s my problem with Justin Fields. We saw him last year lean into his strengths, and this year, that’s absent. Watching his film, he looks more and more repetitive. I can see why a coach is possibly telling you what to do, and what not to do, because I can’t trust that you’re going to do it. When you turn on the tape, it’s like he’s not going through his progressions, he’s holding the ball too long and he’s not processing what’s going on from a schematic standpoint of the defense. I can see his frustration, as well as the coaches’. At the end of the day, something’s got to give and typically it’s the coach.”
