Colin Cowherd: “Christian McCaffrey is the Niners’ MVP, not Purdy. Christian McCaffrey is the world’s best running back. Brock Purdy is a ‘good’ quarterback, maybe ‘very good’, maybe I’m under-selling him, but I see otherworldly talent here [with McCaffrey]. The NFL’s reluctance to give running backs the MVP award has now risen to comical. He’s on pace to have 24 touchdowns and 2,200 yards on a team that is stacked – Kittle, Aiyuk, Deebo. They're stacked with weapons and he can finish with a touchdown in half a game, and 2,200 yards. That’s unbelievable, and this league is reluctant to feed running backs, to embrace running backs, to pay running backs, and yet San Francisco is 1988 football; they are old school. In 20 years it’s going to look silly if this Niners team wins a Super Bowl and you’re going to be like ‘Oh. my God, Christian McCaffrey had 24 touchdowns, and they had all these Hall of Famers. He didn’t win the MVP??’ At some point are we ever going to embrace a running back? If you’re not going to consider McCaffrey for MVP then make up new guidelines, because what you’re seeing – I think he’s the most talented running back ever. Barry Sanders could run like nothing I’ve ever seen, and Walter Payton is up there too, but in terms of blocking, catching, making people miss, running past them, and running, power, finesse... It’s as good as anything I’ve ever seen. On pace for 24 touchdowns and 2,200 yards IN THIS ERA in insane and makes no sense. If you’re historically amazing, then you should be the recipient of honors and awards. That’s why we have these awards – they go into books, museums, and Hall of Fames. You take your kids and you’re like ‘this was one of the great years of all time.’ This is the best player on the planet at his position having a top-10 year of all time, and running backs don’t have top 10 years anymore. To do this now on a roster that is stacked is just insane to me.”
Watch Colin Cowherd explain why he believes San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is the ‘most talented running back ever’, with the MVP candidate leading the NFL in rushing yards and touchdowns.
Check out the segment above as Cowherd details the ‘insanity’ of McCaffrey putting up these types of gaudy statistics in a modern NFL that has effectively shunned the importance of the running back position over the last decade.
