Dan Patrick on Jim Harbaugh's Future: 'I Think He's Going to the Chargers'

Dan Patrick: "We’ll talk about Jim Harbaugh’s soundbite; he was able to do the ‘Irish goodbye’. He didn't wanna talk about his future at all. I love how the Michigan fans say he ‘LOVES HIS ALMA MATER!’... While he’s trying to leverage whatever he’s leveraging with the NFL, or Michigan to help him with his next job... But he ‘LOVES’ his alma mater? If he loves his alma mater, sign the deal. It's great money, sign the deal! You love your alma mater! That’s why I still think he’s going to the NFL. I think he’s going to the Chargers, I still feel that. There’s nobody like Jim Harbaugh. He’s quirky, he’s odd, but he’s great at one thing... He’s great at coaching football. I just see him on the West Coast again. Did it with Stanford, did it with the Niners, did it in San Diego when he started his college career as a coach. I feel like he’s headed back out there no matter what happens next Monday night. Here was Jim Harbaugh, and here was the reporter’s question for him on ESPN:

Holly Rowe: ‘Coach, you’re down here hugging players and the first thing I hear you say to guys are ‘I love you.’ How do you describe the bond on this team that just got this win?’

Jim Harbaugh: ‘It’s a togetherness, we’re so together, so connected. We were going to overcome anything that was inside this stadium. Talk to this man right here [looking at Michigan running back Blake Corum]! He made it happen!’

Dan Patrick: “That was great. I don’t want you to be able to ask me a question about my future, Holly Rowe, ‘here – talk to Blake Corum! Come on in here! See ya later!’... Then Harbaugh went to the press conference and here was the reporter’s question to Jim:

Reporter: ‘Congratulations, coach. There is a lot of interest in your future, I wonder if you can tell me what the chances are that the championship game might be your last one at Michigan?”

Harbaugh: ‘My future consists of a happy flight back to Ann Arbor, Michigan! Can’t Wait!’

Dan Patrick: “I appreciate the reporter asking the question, but he’s not going to answer that. It’s a ‘must-ask’ situation. Unfortunately, you should be talking about the national title game, but there have been reports out there. Jim hasn’t squashed those reports. All he has to say is ‘I’m not interested in the NFL and I’m not going.’ It doesn’t mean that you won’t go, it’s like when Nick Saban was with the Dolphins and they were like ‘Are you taking the Alabama job?’ -- ‘No, I’m not, I’m staying here’... Oh, ‘Nick Saban took the Alabama job!’ You can always go back on your word.” (Full Segment Above)
