Colin Cowherd: “Jayson Tatum is a very good player but here are the leading All-Star vote getters among fans... Giannis, LeBron, Embiid, Durant, Tatum. The NBA has three groups of stars. There’s the ‘old’ stars: Kawhi, LeBron, Steph, AD. Then there’s the ‘international’ guys: Giannis, Embiid, Jokic, Wemby, Luka, SGA, they’re taking over the league. Then there’s the domestic players in the middle that are really good: Anthony Edwards, Ja Morant, Trey Young, Jayson Tatum. Is Tatum going to get a title? Tatum broke into the NBA and he wasn’t as refined as LeBron and Steph, he wasn’t as tough as Kawhi, and as battle-hardened as the ‘old guard.’ He had about a two-year window to win a title because now he’s gotta go through Giannis in his prime, Jokic in his prime, Luka is moving into his prime, Wemby is three years from his prime, SGA now into his prime, and I’m not sure he’s as good as any of those guys. It’s almost like Andy Murray in tennis. Andy Murray had three grand slams, but Federer at the beginning overwhelmed him, and Djokovic at the end was better. Murray had this little tiny window and he won three Grand Slams. Other guys win 20+. Tatum was not ready when he first got into the league. He wasn’t as good as LeBron, he wasn’t as good as Steph, he wasn’t as good as the old guard. And now he’s not as good as the young guard, the international guys. Was his window two years ago? Was THAT the window to win his ‘grand slam’? Because I’m here to tell you – he ain’t Jokic. He’s not Giannis. In two years he’s not going to be Wemby. He’s not offensively, Luka. SGA might average 36 a game next year, can anyone in the league stop him?? That guy is an incredible. The timing was lousy with Andy Murray. You had Federer here, Nadal, Djoker over here... He had a little tiny sliver in there. Was the ‘sliver’ for Tatum two years ago in the Finals? He’s not Joker, he’s not Giannis, in two years he’s not Wemby, he can’t score like Luka, and SGA is going to average 35 a game at some point.” (Full Segment Above)
Watch Colin Cowherd of FS1’s The Herd explain why he believes the championship window for Jayson Tatum may have already closed for the Boston Celtics All-Star, with Colin arguing that Tatum didn’t take advantage of the fall-off years of LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry, and will now be in the championship shadows of Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Check out the segment above as Colin compares Tatum to tennis star Andy Murray, who was limited in the amount of Grand Slams he could win because of the timing of his career being sandwiched around the primes of legends Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal.
