Reggie Bush Calls Out 'Lies' From NCAA, Says He's Getting His Heisman Back

Dan Patrick: “You filed a defamation lawsuit against the NCAA in August. Explain to me what you’re hoping to get out of that.”

Reggie Bush: “The NCAA made a statement about me that was a lie. They said I was paid to play, and that was never part of the original investigation, alleging that I was paid to play. If it’s a lie, then it’s a lie. For so long the NCAA has been able to get away with the narrative that I was paid to play, that’s why it’s ironic that the narrative that I was paid to play was first circulated and started by the very people who released a statement about me officially stating that I was paid to play. That’s what the defamation lawsuit is ultimately about. It’s about when someone says something about you that’s not true, especially if it’s public, especially if it’s released to numerous media outlets that pick up on it. It’s also listed as a reason why I’m not being reinstated, or a reason why I’m not getting my Heisman Trophy back, and that’s a lie.”

DP: “What if they said ‘drop your lawsuit, we’ll restore your collegiate records as a settlement?’”

Bush: “It’s too late, we way past that.”

DP: “But if they restore your records, then you get the Heisman?”

Bush: “They’re going to have to do that anyway. A lie is a lie. If it’s a lie, then it’s going to be exposed, right? We will find out in this lawsuit. We will find out who is really telling the truth. That’s what is the most amazing part about it is – we've never been able to do this. For so long I haven’t been able to do this, which is file this lawsuit against the NCAA, until they made that statement. Now for the first time you’re seeing my story, my case being tried in an official way, in the court of law, which is something the NCAA has never had to do. They’ve never had to prove their case in the court of law.”

Listen to former USC football star and Super Bowl champion Reggie Bush join The Dan Patrick Show to discuss the lawsuit he recently filed against the NCAA, with Bush calling out the NCAA for a particular ‘lie’ they told about him in 2021, and defiantly proclaiming that he’s going to get his Heisman Trophy back

Bush took exception to a statement the NCAA made in July of 2021 when discussing why Bush, considered one of the greatest college football running backs of all time, was not having his records and Heisman Trophy restored, using the exact term of ‘pay-for-play' in relation to Bush’s college career.

Although Bush was cited to have accepted ‘improper benefits’ while at USC, Bush has claimed that those ‘improper benefits’ don’t fall under the category of ‘pay-for-play', which would mean getting paid directly in exchange for playing football for the Trojans. Bush has alleged that his ‘improper benefits’ had to do with individuals attempting to hook themselves onto the USC star for his future career in the NFL.

Thus Bush has filed a defamation lawsuit specifically targeting the NCAA’s usage of ‘pay-for-play', saying that’s the reason he hasn’t been reinstated by the group who governs over the Heisman Trophy Award.

Check out the segment above as Bush expands on his lawsuit and what he hopes to gain 20 years after being heralded as the star for one of the best teams in college football history.
