Duke star Kyle Filipowski sustained an injury when Wake Forest fans stormed the court after the Demon Deacons beat the Blue Devils last night and Dan Patrick thinks it’s about time something was done to protect the players. This is an issue for which college basketball has only itself to blame considering they have been using court-storming highlights to celebrate their sport for decades. It has become synonymous with upset wins and championships, and it’s only a matter of time until it goes horribly wrong.
Dan Patrick: “College basketball, the networks, they celebrated this. They showcased this. Every highlight during Championship Week when I used to work at the mothership they would show the kids storming the court. Like, that’s the end of the highlight; it’s just standard procedure. Now if somebody wants to come up with some kind of scenario/solution, great! I’m all for it. I just don’t want this to be where I come in one morning and I say, ‘I told you so.’”
