Jason Smith: John Calipari Is Smartly Bolting From Kentucky a Year Early

Jason and Mike react to the news that John Calipari is officially out as head basketball coach at Kentucky, and set to fill the same position at Arkansas. Jason thinks that while Calipari is framing his exit as a necessary action for the greater good of the Kentucky program, he's really covering his own tracks, getting away a year early from what could have gotten ugly with another season of disappointment.

Jason Smith: "I love how he's jumping to Arkansas for more money... and yet he makes it sound like this has to be done [for the greater good]... What he's doing is he's getting out a year early. You hear it all the time, when a team trades a football player they say 'we're trading him a year early'... Calipari is simply jumping a year early as opposed to a year later, because he knows another year of no Final Four, of no SEC Championship -- that's gonna be it... Going [to Arkansas] now, he's getting that deal, but another year where Kentucky maybe doesn't do well? Suddenly we're questioning, is Calipari still Calipari? Are people still going crazy to hire him?... He's getting out a year early!"
