Colin Cowherd Says WNBA Should Have Given Caitlin Clark an Easier Schedule

Watch Colin Cowherd of FS1’s The Herd explain why he thinks the WNBA dropped the ball on properly integrating former Iowa Hawkeyes superstar Caitlin Clark to the professional ranks, saying the WNBA should have gone out of their way to cater to their biggest cash cow ever by giving Clark the easiest schedule possible to begin her immensely anticipated career.

Clark's Fever have lost four consecutive games to start the season, and although Clark is averaging a respectable 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists on 41.2% shooting, she also leads the league in turnovers with 6.5 per game, and is also averaging 4.3 personal fouls to boot.

Check out the segment below as Colin details why the WNBA making the Indiana Fever have to play the Connecticut Sun and New York Liberty both twice the first four games of the season, two of the best defensive teams in the WNBA, presented the record-breaking scoring Clark with too challenging of a start, and thus made her transition look sloppy under the brightest lights the sport has ever seen.

Colin Cowherd: “This is the 28th year of the WNBA. They have never had a player, either good enough or interesting enough to drive marketing, revenue, and TV ratings so that the entire league can fly private. They fly commercial like the rest of us. That doesn’t mean there haven’t been really good players, but Caitlin Clark, who had never played until a week ago in a WNBA game, is the first player it appears that they’re banking on. And I say ‘banking’ literally. They’re literally now going to private flights for two years. They FINALLY have this moment.... Don’t put Caitlin Clark up in the first four games against New York twice, and Connecticut twice – the best defensive teams.
The NFL gets Jim Harbaugh in the league and what does the NFL do? They give the Chargers the two easiest games potentially on their schedule. The NFL has the Chargers facing the Raiders at home. The NFL with Caleb Williams and Chicago won’t have them playing the very good Packers until Week 11. Why? They want Caleb Williams to get his sea legs, open up with Tennessee, give him a fighting chance, not a lot of TV exposure until Weeks 15 and 17. They figured it out.
Connecticut twice? New York Liberty twice? Caitlin Clark is struggling. You’ve got to take advantage of these opportunities.
A great example is the MLS because they’re closer to the WNBA than the NFL. They made sure Beckham got to Los Angeles. They weren’t going to put him middle of the country. I was told the MLS has a salary cap.... Messi makes more than all but four TEAMS. What about the salary cap? ‘EHH, WHATEVA!’... Sometimes you gotta make stuff work. Beckham got to Los Angeles, Messi got to Miami. I’m not sure if it was the Illuminati, secret handshakes, smoke-filled rooms... MAKE IT WORK.
When Tiger Woods came onto the PGA Tour they needed a driving star. They just made stuff work for Tiger.
Caitlin Clark is opening with the Liberty twice and the Connecticut Sun? I don’t know what they have to do, I don’t know if they have to change the trade rules, get her better players, or lighten up the schedule... Sometimes you just have to get stuff done and figure it out. Get Messi paid, get Beckham to LA, get Caitlin Clark an easy schedule.
WNBA, you gotta do better. You gotta help Caitlin Clark.”
