Doug Gottlieb: Bronny James is Making a Mistake Leaving College Basketball

Doug Gottlieb: “I think it’s a mistake. It doesn’t mean you can’t develop in the G-League, but the way to truly stick and develop to get the best basketball out of you... Dru Joyce played growing up with LeBron James – they are lifelong friends – why wouldn’t you just go play for him for a year where you can play 30 minutes, make mistakes, and explore your game?
I like him to make it – I mean, he’s going to make it, I’d like for him to earn it and make it. It wouldn’t be the first time that there’s a favor on an NBA roster, we’ve seen it in Milwaukee for years. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be the son of LeBron, but I just think in terms of individual decisions, the best one would have been to go play for Duquesne, go get a ton of reps, succeed some, fail some, succeed mostly again, but instead it’s probably going to be G-League and then hoping for the occasional call-up to be with your dad. Can he develop? Yeah, people develop. The likelihood is it’s going to be hard.”

Listen to Doug Gottlieb of Fox Sports Radio’s The Doug Gottlieb Show explain why he thinks Bronny James electing to forego college and remain in the upcoming NBA Draft is a ‘mistake.’

Gottlieb believes Bronny should have completed his transfer from USC to play at Duquense University of the A-10 under Dukes head coach Dru Joyce, who is a close childhood friend of LeBron James, and a high former teammate of LeBron’s on the Mt. St. Mary’s basketball team.

Check out the audio above as Gottlieb details why Bronny should have played another year as a 30-minute-a-night player, refined his game, and then came out in the 2025 Draft.
