Boxing star Ryan Garcia was arrested on Saturday (June 8) for an incident at a Beverly Hills hotel, a Beverly Hills Police Department watch commander confirmed to ESPN.

Garcia, 25, was charged with felony vandalism in relation to accusations that he caused $15,000 in damage at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills at around 5:45 p.m. local time. The boxer may also be charged with public intoxication, his attorney, Darin Chavez, confirmed to ESPN.

The specific nature of the damage and Garcia's behavior wasn't immediately clear as of Sunday (June 9) morning. Garcia reportedly complained of a medical issue after being booked at the Beverly Hills Police Department jail and was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to be evaluated and treated.

Chavez issued a statement to ESPN claiming that the arrest took place during "an extraordinarily challenging time for Ryan, as he has been grappling with devastating news regarding his mother's health."

"Ryan has been open about his struggles with mental health over the years, and at this time he is dealing with an immense emotional burden," Chavez said. "The support and understanding from fans and the public are crucial as he navigates these personal challenges. We are working diligently to provide Ryan with the resources he needs. Our team is committed to ensuring that he receives the appropriate help and care to address both his immediate and long-term well-being. We ask for continued support and compassion as Ryan focuses on his family and his health at this time."

Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) is already facing suspension from the New York Athletic Commission after testing positive for a banned substance ostarine prior to his win against WBC junior welterweight champion Devin Haney -- which was reported after the fight -- in April. The California native knocked out Haney three times during the match, but was ineligible to win the title because he weighed 3.2 pounds more than the limit prior to the bout.

A decision on the match in relation to Garcia's positive test is forthcoming from the commission.
