Utah State Cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. Dies at 22

Utah State cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. was found dead Saturday (July 20) night at the age of 22 after drowning during an apparent cliff-diving accident, Utah State athletics announced in a news release shared on its official website.

The Cache County Sheriff's Office said it received a report of a possible drowning incident at Porcupine Reservoir after a young man seen diving from cliffs didn't resurface and identified the victim as "a student athlete at Utah State University." School officials learned that Seldon was found dead by the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team at 9:05 p.m. on Saturday.

Seldon transferred to Utah State this summer, having spent two seasons at New Mexico State University with newly promoted USU interim head coach and defensive coordinator Nate Dreilling.

"Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own," Dreilling said. "Having had a previous relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you he was an incredible person and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre's family as we grieve with them over this tremendous loss."

"Our Utah State University Athletics family is devastated over the sudden death of Andre Seldon Jr.," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Diana Sabau. "We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who loved Andre."
