The USA Women's Basketball Team survived a late threat by Belgium to win 87-74 in Group C play and advance to the knockout round at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Thursday (August 1).

Breanna Stewart led all scorers with 26 points, along with six rebounds and four assists. A'Ja Wilson, the reigning WNBA MVP, finished with a double-double, with 23 points and 13 rebound.

Belgium threatened the heavily-favored Americans late, outscoring team USA by one point in the third quarter and cutting their deficit to as little as seven with 5:45 remaining. But the Americans persevered with Wilson and Stewart combining to score 13 of the team's final 19 points.

Team USA has now won 57 consecutive games in Olympic play, a streak that dates back to the 1996 Atlanta Games and have won seven consecutive gold medals.
